The English and Literature Department at Zhenghua Secondary School inspires students to develop their language skills and literary appreciation through meaningful and authentic experiences.
In English, students across all levels sharpen their reasoning and communication skills through class discussions, presentations, and external competitions such as the Orator's Trophy and the National Public Speaking Competition. These experiences build confidence in public speaking and equip students to articulate their ideas with clarity and conviction.
In Literature, students engage with a range of texts — from poetry to classic novels to local plays — brought to life through authentic learning experiences including live theatre performances and drama masterclasses. These opportunities deepen students' understanding of texts while nurturing their creativity and confidence as performers and thinkers.
Beyond the classroom, our students represent the school on national platforms such as the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships, the National Schools Literature Festival, and the Business Insights for Growth (BIG!) Competition. Through these experiences, we nurture empathetic communicators, discerning readers and creative inquirers who carry the skills and dispositions they have developed well beyond the classroom.
